Are you engaged in daily dose of spirituality?

Are you engaged in daily dose of spirituality?

Spirituality isn’t only a matter of finding occasional moments of peace and harmony. It also means taking a meaningful approach to life that needs to be practiced day in and day out, particularly in our dealings with others. Above all, we should not let ourselves be driven by the self-centered concerns of our ego. When we give to others, for example, we shouldn’t do so because we expect love or material benefits in return. True giving that seeks no selfish gains is one of the best ways to fill our souls with happiness.

Those who make a habit of such selfless giving lead blessed lives. It is also called paying it forward. Sometime we are obliged by others and can not pay them off but we can pay it forward.

Spiritual practices can be nurtured and maintained by encouragement and support from others who share your values. This has certainly been true in my own life. I am fortunate enough to have family and friends with whom I can discuss spirituality and our shared goal of incorporating deeper values into our lives. These conversations go a long way toward helping us strengthen our commitment to our spiritual side, and I believe that this kind of support group can make an important difference in your life as well. If you are not part of such a group, now try to join one.

Most communities have spiritual centers that can put you in touch with people who meet to share thoughts about the fundamental questions of existence.

Spirituality for your Genius

Spirituality for your Genius

My Religion is simple; My Religion is kindness.
Dalai Lama

One important step toward spirituality is to recognize the importance of being truthful. The more self-deception we allow into our lives, the more difficult it becomes to find inner peace. We need to have honest internal dialogues in which we explore the possibility that we may be hurting others, either knowingly or unknowingly. And when we ask ourselves, “have I given my 100% to this task?

How do friends help us bring out our own creativity?

How do friends help us bring out our own creativity?

Having many friends is a blessing. Friends are like our gold mine as we learn and share many things with them. We can tap into their resources and they can tap into ours. By mere exchanging information, laughter and joy we can be more creative. Keeping in touch with them and talking to them often helps us being grounded and feeling secure. It is the experience of loving one another that rides like a wave between us.

Every one of us possesses the UNIQUE qualities within us.  Sharing our ideas and knowledge makes it fruitful to all of us.  Technologies such as cell phones, and email, and text messaging make it very easy for all of us to keep in touch.

How can all of this help us become a creative genius? The answer is simple: changes and challenges play a vital role in promoting our creativity. If we embrace them as opportunities, we can quickly find ourselves drawing on creative resources we did not even know we had.

Keeping the mind charged up with new information

Keeping the mind charged up with new information

Assimilating new and novel information and adopting new technologies can bring you one step closer to being successful in whatever you seek to accomplish. Yet in today’s world we are bombarded with so much information all the time that we must constantly decide which of these many new developments are meaningful to us. Sometimes, unexpected developments become important primarily because they help us look beyond ourselves. The earthquake in Haiti is a good example of how new occurrences around the globe can provide opportunities to become more caring and more generous. Our family responded to this tragedy the way millions of other families did: by donating to the victims and praying for their safety.

New information can touch and inspire us in another way, through positive stories that give us examples of dedicated individuals and organizations working to improve the lives of people with great needs throughout the world. These examples can serve as models for us, showing us how valuable it is to use our energy and resourcefulness for helping others. Such inspirational stories demonstrate that our creative genius can be tapped in a great variety of ways. In her excellent book, The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron writes, “There is an underlying, in-dwelling creative force infusing all of life—including ourselves. When we open ourselves to our creativity, we open ourselves to the Creator’s creativity within us and our lives.

Your attitude towards change

Your attitude towards change

The open-minded see the truth in different things: the narrow-minded see only the differences.
Unknown

There have been volumes written on the importance of keeping an open attitude toward change. The common advice in these books first explains that people tend to reject what is new without giving it much thought. “If it’s unfamiliar and hard to understand, why bother with it

Are you open minded and open to changes and challenges?

Are you open minded and open to changes and challenges?

No matter how successful we may think we are, we should never close ourselves off to new ideas and new ways of doing things. Having a big ego can lead us to believe that we know everything there is to know and to reject anything that is unfamiliar. We may then avoid listening to other points of view, resist change, and avoid new challenges that can disturb our lives. In doing so, we miss out on countless possibilities that could help us continue to grow. There is nothing to lose and so much to gain by keeping an open mind.

Resisting change seems to be an instinctive human response. I find myself doing it from time to time, and I see my friends and colleagues doing it as well. Luckily, I soon catch myself and stop to ask what exactly I’m afraid of. In my experience, embracing new challenges and new ways of doing things has always led to positive changes in my life. Opening your mind to change can mean opening a door to a new career and to new ways of being creative.

Children’s ability to keep you young

Children’s ability to keep you young

Children can also help you stay youthful.

If you’re lucky to have small children in your life, spending time with them can make you feel young at heart. Playing with them, reading to them, and taking them to places like parks and zoos can fill us with a renewed appreciation for the wonders of existence. It’s unfortunate that many older people fail to appreciate how precious the love, joy and youthful energy children can bring into their lives.

Many of us sense that there’s a “missing piece.

A basic requirement to being young and healthy

A basic requirement to being young and healthy

A basic requirement for feeling young is feeling healthy. We should begin a healthy lifestyle when we are in our early years. Unfortunately, many of us assume that we will always be fine and therefore don’t bother forming the good habits that will keep us looking and feeling youthful over the years.

We’ve all been told what these good habits are: eating properly, getting enough exercise to keep our bodies in good shape, and to maintain peace in our mind. With so many gyms available, with all their machines and instructors and yoga classes, there’s no excuse for letting ourselves go.

There are many lists of Do’s and Dont’s out there, but here is a short set of guidelines that has served me well over the years:

1.    Do not smoke;
2.    If you must drink, drink only occasionally and moderately;
3.    Limit fat, sugar, and salt in your diet;
4.    Stay safe by avoiding situations where you can be victimized;
5.    Get annual physical and dental checkups and follow-ups;
6.    Get seven to eight hours of sleep every night;
7.    Maintain a healthy weight.

Is it so difficult to do?

New and Novel Learning

New and Novel Learning

New and novel learning can take place at any age. Large numbers of American baby boomers are now reaching their retirement years. While some of these people are not yet ready to leave their jobs due to the pressures of tough economic times, those who have retired or are about to do so have a choice. They can either stop being active physically and mentally, or they can rewire themselves by maintaining a youthful interest in learning new things and in seeking new challenges in life.
HOW DO PEOPLE STAY YOUNG WHILE GROWING OLD?
•    Exercise daily.
•    Keep a smile on your face.
•    Keep a positive attitude.
•    Always applaud someone’s success.
•    Read, read and read widely and often.
•    Enjoy nature and become one with it.
•    Laugh often and heartily.
•    Must socialize.
•    Go to adult school or county college to learn new skills.
•    Listen to music. Attend concerts.
•    Stay active with community and friends.
•    Do an activity which you enjoy.
•    Do brain teasing exercises like Sudoku.
•    Get a pat if you can manage.
•    Count your blessings.
•    Eat healthy.
•    Travel often when and if you can.
•    Give generously to others, your time.
•    Donate whenever you can for good causes.
•    Play with children.
•    Learn to e-mail and web browsing.
•    If you’re an art lover, do some artsy thing.

Age is an issue of mind over matter

Age is an issue of mind over matter

Age is an issue of mind over matter.  If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.
Mark Twain

This has been my favorite quote throughout my life.  A wooden plate in scripted with this saying has been hanging on my kitchen wall for years and I try to follow it to the letter.

I like to think of myself as young or at least young at heart and in my actions. Looking my best, no matter how many years I have added, continues to be my goal. But the true benefit of looking young is that it helps you feel young. If you feel young, you think that your best years are still to come. You look ahead to what you can accomplish. And if you want to become a creative genius, it’s important to believe that you’re still capable of great things.

At age 40, it’s possible to feel that you are not young any longer, and that you can’t make any significant changes in the course of your life. When I was 40, with two children, I was working in a field that was not especially rewarding for me. But I felt young enough to start over with something new, and I took a great interest in the computers that were just arriving on the scene. I soon became a student again, going back to college part-time to take courses in computer languages and applications.

Life choices

Life choices

The decisions we make about how we will spend our time each day are actually decisions about our own success. If we’re aiming to become creative geniuses, we have to leave room for creative activities and set less important things aside.

Aspiring to be successful involves committing ourselves to spending our time wisely. Do we value time and treasure it? Do we schedule and organize it? Or do we simply let much of it slip away? Again, the way we manage our time will either bring us closer to success or make it difficult for us to achieve it.

Life is a series of choices

Life is a series of choices

If we manage time wisely, we can always come out ahead. We have to examine our activities and goals so we can select our priorities and act with them in mind. A good way to begin is to write down what is most important for us and what is less important. Some activities are vital and essential to what we are and what we hope to become. These need to be given priority. Other things are not so vital and can simply wait. Above all, we have to learn to say no.

In that sense, life can be seen as a series of choices. You continuously have to decide how you want to spend your precious time. Some things have to give way to make room for others. As Hal Urban, the author of Life’s Greatest Lessons, put it, “Motivation, goal setting, hard work and self-discipline will turn your potentiality in reality. There’s no more effective use of time.
